The HO scaled, White Lake Division, of the Southern Pacific Railroad is located within a 30 ft
by 40 ft room. It models the transition era from steam through the first generation of diesel.
Located in a rural-suburban area of southern California, the layout consist of over 250 lineal
feet of double mainline with an additional 60 lineal feet of the Red Line, a third rail powered
interurban line.
Benchwork consist of L-girder with ¾ inch plywood deck covered with ¼ inch thick
Upson Board. The main deck height is 48 inches with a 14 stall roundhouse on the upper
level at 58 inches. Track is Code 100 with a minimum 40 inch radius and two percent ruling
grade. The majority of turnouts are Peco with some Shinnohra cross overs. Turnouts are
powered by Tortoise slow motion machines. An eight track hidden yard storage yard has
lighted indicators for locating the stored cars.
Scenery, approximate 20 percent complete, consist of extruded foam covered with plaster
cloth and molding plaster. Backdrops (100 percent painted) is sheet aluminum painted by
Norm Logan. Over 50 kit and kitbashed buildings.
