Great Northern Railroad - Cascade Division
The layout is based on the Great Northern Railway between Skykomish and Wenatchee over Stevens Pass in Washington in October 1955. It is in a basement of approximately 1400 square feet. The track is complete and scenery about 99%. The mainline is 480 feet staging to staging. Most of the structures are scratch built from photos or blueprints of the actual structures or are made to be typical of buildings found in the area. Scenery is of the Pacific Northwest with about 5,000 handmade trees, 120 feet of painted backdrop, and a lighting system made to show four distinct areas of the layout. Locomotives are mostly diesel but some steam does run and there is 160 feet of catenary running heavy electric helpers. Operation of the layout is Time Table, Train Order with a Dispatcher and an Agent/Operator. The layout uses a system called Flexbill to generate waybills for operation.
